Zerrek Vostel was the huntmaster for House Srdan of the Duchy of the Highlands. In fall of 111EA, he led members of the family into the hills south of Kereth, a wilder but not untamed region just beyond Essodan's borders. The group was set upon by an unexpected tribe of hobgoblins, with heavy losses on the noble side.
While hiding from the monsters, the group found an overgrown temple of The Eight that had been constructed long ago by the Tamiriyans. Inside Vostel found the two texts he now teaches from: an older, Tamiriyan version of The Hamala and the lesser known Covenant of Eminance.
After the losses of his group and in recovery of his grievous wound, Vostel became deeper and deeper invested in the writings he had found. Soon he believed he recognized a heresy in the way the Church of the Saramine in Essodan taught the faith. He left his role in the noble house and devoted his energy (and bitterness) to teaching and prophesying under the monicker 'The Unbending Rod of Vigilance.'
In Summer 112EA, the Red Stone Mercenary Company escorted him from the farmlands north of Kereth and put him on the path to Virris Revik's teacher in Assetallis.
As a matter of interesting coincidence, Vostel's wound was caused by the vicious hobgolin war axe carried by Finch Sabic when it was in the hands of its previous owner.
