Finch's father was one of the first children born in Kingsmark, though his parents came from inner Essodan. Over his childhood and teen years, the family was increasingly beset by strange luck, from Kingsmark all the way along the route back to Zoryn. What had widely been thought of as a successful old lineage had started to see early, curious deaths and mishaps despite their financial well being.
By the time Finch's father died a few years ago, the southern arm of Lucky Talisman Trading was all but defunct, having lost so many family members along the trade route back to Zoryn. Fortunately, he had invested in other businesses. By the time Finch divested the family (himself) of the various places, they included: River Red Brewery (to Strakamir Revik; Anvil Street Warehouse (to the StoneCutters Guild); and other property where family stables had been.
Finch made his way to Zoryn, to the original family estate. There he learned more about the recent incidents and almost complete demise of the family and their businesses, and that he might be the only remaining family member.
Finch made the long trip to the capital of Assetallis seeking information on what he had started to believe was a curse. There he used the coin he had to purchase entry into the library at the Bardic College (much of which is open to the public for a fee). There he often found Virris Revik, a half elf from Kingsmark that he had known for many years. Virris was secretive about his reasons for being in the library, but he was often in the religion and occult sections as well; Finch vowed to look for him at a later date.
After a year of research, Finch returned to Kingsmark to investigate his family's deaths further. Along his searching, he happened on Virris Revik again, and quickly threw in his lot with the Red Stone Mercenary Company.
